# Get whether a repository's workflows run

> Whether a repository's workflows run at all: enabled is on for a repository and off for a fork until someone chooses (enabled_chosen says whether anyone has), so a fork never runs the workflows it copied until they are turned on.

<div class="g1t-endpoint"><span class="g1t-method" data-method="get">GET</span><code>/repos/{owner}/{name}/actions/permissions</code></div>

While it is off, no push, pull request, schedule, dispatch, repository_dispatch, merge queue or re-run starts a run; its workflows stay listed. allowed_actions is always all. Needs the Read role.

A fork's workflows are off until someone turns them on: here `ada/hello` is a fork nobody has chosen for yet. See [Forks](/concepts/forks/).

- **Authentication:** Optional. Public data can be read without a token; send one to see what is private.
- **MCP tool:** [`workflow`](/reference/mcp/#workflow) with `action` `get_enabled`, and the same inputs
- **Scope:** An access token needs [`repo:read`](/guides/authentication/#scopes).

## Path parameters

| Name | Type | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `owner` | string | Yes | The workspace that owns the repository. |
| `name` | string | Yes | The repository's name. |

## Example request

```sh
curl https://api.g1t.sh/repos/ada/hello/actions/permissions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $G1T_TOKEN"
```

## Example response

A successful request answers `200` with:

```json
{
  "enabled": false,
  "enabled_chosen": false,
  "allowed_actions": "all"
}
```

## Errors

A failed request answers with one of these statuses and a body like `{"error": {"code": "not_found", "message": "Repository not found."}}`. See [errors](/reference/api/#errors).

| Status | Code | When |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 401 | `unauthenticated` | A token is required, or the one sent is not valid. |
| 403 | `forbidden` | The token is valid but not allowed to do this, such as a member-only change, or a token without the scope it needs. |
| 404 | `not_found` | It does not exist, or you cannot see it. |
| 422 | `invalid` | The input is not valid. `message` says which field and why. |
